Uribe leaves game with chest contusion, set for MRI

Before Yoenis Cespedes was esteemed for his influence on the New York Mets, veteran infielder Juan Uribe was noted for his big impact on the team.

The longevity of Uribe's continued influence on the team will be determined by an MRI on Monday.

Uribe, who was playing second for the Mets on Sunday instead of his usual third base, injured himself while diving for a groundball hit to his left in the third inning of the Mets' 11-2 loss to the Yankees, and was forced to leave the game a few innings later with was what diagnosed as a chest contusion after X-rays came back negative.

"He's pretty sore," manager Terry Collins said after the game.

Uribe, who joined the Mets after being traded by the Atlanta Braves just ahead of the non-waiver trade deadline, has been a key veteran leader in the Mets clubhouse despite mediocre performance on the field.
