Rockies outright Wilin Rosario to Triple-A after he clears waivers
Colorado Rockies infielder Wilin Rosario might begin 2016 in the minors.
The first baseman and catcher, who turns 27 this offseason, was outrighted to Triple-A by the Rockies on Monday, per the Denver Post, after clearing waivers.
Rosario, who was among a handful of Rockies players who were designated for assignment two weeks ago, is now listed on the roster of Colorado's Triple-A affiliate in Albuquerque.
While Rosario was called up as a catcher in 2011 and played the position for four seasons in the majors, he primarily served as a first baseman last year, hitting .268/.295/.416 with six home runs and 29 RBI in 231 at-bats.
The 5-foot-11, 220-pound slugger, who finished fourth in the NL Rookie of the Year voting in 2012, is currently platooning as a catcher in a winter league in his native Dominican Republic.
In five seasons with the Rockies, Rosario has hit .273/.306/.473 with 71 home runs and 241 RBI in 1,512 at-bats over 447 games.
