So, it never rains in southern California, huh? Tell that to the San Diego Padres.

Padres players and coaching staff are nice and dry in Peoria, Ariz., enjoying spring training. But their summer home looked a little different Monday after a winter rain storm overwhelmed the drainage system and transformed Petco Park into a swamp.

The grounds crew doesn’t expect the field to suffer any damage from the standing water and there already were plans to put down new sod later this week, according to FOX 5 in San Diego.

The Padres’ home opener is set for Friday, April 7 against the San Francisco Giants. Let’s hope it’s a sunny afternoon.
