The Indians have activated infielder Zach Walters off the 15-day disabled list and optioned him to Triple-A, the team announced Friday.
Walters, who began the season on the DL with an oblique strain that he suffered during spring training, went 2-for-9 with three RBI in two rehab starts for the Columbus Clippers this week. His two hits were both hard-hit triples.
Walters will continue to play in Columbus every day, where he'll get regular at-bats while he waits for a big league promotion.
The 25-year-old infielder came to Cleveland in 2014 in a trade with the Washington Nationals for shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera.
Walters hit .170 (.223 OBP, .655 OPS) with seven home runs and 12 RBI in 30 games with the Indians last season.
