Baltimore Orioles 2B Schoop to return to rehab

Published Jun. 30, 2015 11:32 p.m. ET

There was some hope that Baltimore Orioles second baseman Jonathan Schoop would be back with the team this week, but manager Buck Showalter revealed that isn't the case.

"He can be optioned to a lot of [Minor League affiliates] there for us," Showalter told MLB.com. "Jonathan will benefit from every day he can get, keeping that knee that much stronger. It's a pretty significant injury. But we feel like Jon, if we had to, could be activated, but he'd also benefit from playing in the Minor Leagues."

Schoop has been out since mid-April with a knee injury, but was productive in his first nine games, hitting three home runs and driving in seven.
