Watch Patrick Reed bounce in a spectacular eagle
The British Open began Thursday morning on a beautiful day at Royal Troon, and the scoring conditions were so optimal that players were falling behind the rest of the field if they didn't post three or four-under par through their first nine holes.
25-year-old American Patrick Reed, a four-time winner on the PGA Tour who is still chasing his first major title, carded the first eagle of the tournament on the par-4 third hole with a perfect approach shot.

Reed barely celebrated, but it might end up being the shot of the day. Reed went on to birdie holes No. 4, 6 and 7 and topped the leaderboard after nine holes.
