William & Mary to play at Stanford in 2020
(STATS) - The William & Mary and Stanford football teams will meet for the first time in 2020, the schools announced Thursday.
William & Mary will make the cross-country trip for the Sept. 5 matchup at Stanford Stadium in Palo Alto, California.
"The game will help share the William & Mary brand around the nation, and align us with a Stanford program that we see as the gold standard for a university that does it the right way," William & Mary athletic director Samantha K. Huge said. "We share a commitment for athletic excellence without compromising the high academic standards of our respective universities."
William & Mary has never played in California or against a Pac-12 program.
The game will be Stanford's first against an FCS opponent since it beat UC Davis 45-0 in 2014.
