Washington State president, AD to meet with police

Updated Mar. 5, 2020 1:19 a.m. ET

PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) Washington State University's president and athletic director are set to meet with the local police chief two days after football Coach Mike Leach suggested his players were being unfairly targeted by law enforcement.

University President Kirk Schulz confirmed Thursday's meeting with Pullman Police Chief Gary Jenkins and Athletic Director Bill Moos in a tweet Wednesday night.

Leach complained Tuesday night about three recent incidents that led to assault investigations by police. He said he's concerned the only people being accused of crimes in the incidents are football players. He said police statements to the media ''have distorted the facts and already condemned football players in the court of public opinion.''

Jenkins denied Wednesday his officers are picking on players, saying they ''treat everyone the same.''
