USC will name practice facility after Jerri and Steve Spurrier
In a sense, college football programs have to "keep up with the Joneses" when it comes to facility upgrades.
Not only are the quality of facilities used to help its student-athletes succeed in their respective sports, but they're also used as a recruiting tool -- as well as a tool for negative recruiting.
South Carolina made strides in the area on Tuesday, announcing multiple developments. The USC Board of Trustees granted Phase 1 of approval for a $50 million football operations center adjacent to the current indoor facility. In addition, the board granted Phase II of naming the indoor facility after Jerri and Steve Spurrier. Construction will begin in late 2016, or spring of 2017, according to Athletic Director Ray Tanner.

It's an interesting time to announce these plans, which could coincide in a sense with the new era under Will Muschamp.
It's a benevolent decision to name the indoor facility after its former head coach. Spurrier took the program to new heights, and thus deserves the homage paid to him.
As for the new football operations center, it truly demonstrates the dedication South Carolina has to its football program.
