Texas offensive lineman Kent Perkins arrested on DWI charge

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 10:27 p.m. ET

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Texas offensive lineman Kent Perkins has been arrested in Austin on a driving while intoxicated charge.

Austin police say Perkins was pulled over shortly before 3 a.m. Friday while driving near the UT campus. Perkins was taken into custody without incident.

Online Travis County jail records did not immediately list bond for the 21-year-old senior from Dallas. No attorney was listed to speak for Perkins.

Coach Charlie Strong, in a statement, says he's aware of the situation involving Perkins and was gathering the facts. Strong says he's disappointed with Perkins and takes a strong stance against drinking and driving.

Strong says any punishment for Perkins will decided once UT officials have more information.

The Longhorns are idle this weekend.
