Texas G Sedrick Flowers calls out teammate for being unprepared

Texas offensive lineman Marcus Hutchins didn't last long after being called upon to replace injured starter Kent Perkins, and fellow lineman Sedrick Flowers says he knows why.

The Longhorns' offensive guard called out his teammate, saying Hutchins wasn't prepared to play. His performance would suggest Flowers is onto something. Hutchins was directly responsible for two sacks of quarterback Jerrod Heard, who was sacked seven times in all in the 30-27 loss to Oklahoma State, and five times after Perkins went down.

Surely Hutchins' effort will rile coach Charlie Strong. Making matters more concerning is that Hutchins is not a player who is buried on the depth chart. He's the first player off the sideline in the offensive line rotation and he was starter last season. It's not as if he felt he would only play in an emergency situation.

Junior college transfer Tristan Nickelson quickly replaced Hutchins. The good news for Texas (1-3, 0-1 Big 12) heading into Saturday's game at No. 4 TCU is Strong listed Perkins as day-to-day during his media press conference Monday.

Perkins was knocked out of last Saturday's game after taking a helmet to his knee. Initially it looked as though the injury might be serious.

As worrisome as Hutchins' performance is, Strong can also take solace knowing that players apparently aren't going to stand for it and are willing to call out teammates who aren't ready to play.
