Tennessee Vols Morning Report: Jauan Jennings Arrested, National Signing Day, Lady Vols, Guarantano
Jauan Jennings arrested, National Signing Day, the Lady Tennessee Vols vs LSU, and Jarrett Guarantano lead the Volunteers’ news for Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017.
Well that was a very uneventful National Signing Day. It’s as if the Tennessee Vols and Butch Jones spent the entire year working on their recruiting class as opposed to using all their effort to find a couple of splash players at the end.
And as a shock to the world, Tennessee football’s Signing Day updates don’t even lead news on Rocky Top for Thursday.
That would belong to another key Vol and spells bad news for the program.
Still, Signing Day is one of the stories, and a quarterback outlook also draws attention, so football does dominate today.
But there is a Lady Vols game to preview. Let’s start, though, with the breaking news.
Vols receiver Jauan Jennings cited for drug possession – Knoxville News Sentinel
Tennessee football took a hit as wide receiver Jauan Jennings, who was likely going to lead the Vols as their go-to wide receiver this year, was booked on a misdemeanor. Jennings was cited for drug possession, news that obviously hurts the Vols as they need his help breaking in a new quarterback.
The 19-year-old sophomore, listed in court records as Bennie J. Jennings III, was cited during a traffic stop along James Agee Street on Jan. 15, according to Knoxville Police Department spokesman Darrell DeBusk.
A KPD officer stopped Jennings at 12:48 a.m. for driving in the wrong direction on the one-way street in a Nissan Titan.

Lady Vols set to face LSU Tigers – UTSports
The schedule for Holly Warlick’s team does not get any easier. Three days after beating the South Carolina Gamecocks on the road for their biggest regular season win in a decade, the Tennessee Lady Vols have to host a very dangerous LSU Tigers team that is in the Top 25 of the RPI as well.
Tennessee returns home for the annual Live Pink, Bleed Orange game against LSU on Thursday night, as the Lady Vols look to extend their three-game winning streak.
The game tips off at 7 p.m. and will be available online on SECN+ and through WatchESPN. Visit WatchESPN.com or download the WatchESPN app to view the game on a computer or mobile device. Jarrett Guarantano ready to fight for starting quarterback job – Wes Rucker, GoVols247
With National Signing Day over, the Tennessee Vols are ready to look towards the spring. And with Joshua Dobbs gone, the big story is obviously that a quarterback battle is brewing. It looks like one of the quarterbacks is embracing the competition.
The departure of Joshua Dobbs left a gaping hole atop Tennessee’s quarterback depth chart, and Guarantano said Wednesday that his full focus is on winning that spot and starting the Vols’ season opener against Georgia Tech at the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
“It would be exactly like walking through Times Square,” the redshirt freshman said during Tennessee’s official National Signing Day show on Wednesday.
