TCU coach Gary Patterson is done with doing the politically correct thing and backing the current four-team playoff system when he knows it's an imperfect system.

He's mentioned in the past, in fact earlier this season, that he'd like to see an eight-team playoff, and on Tuesday during his weekly media press conference, Patterson delivered some strong statements about the playoff system.

"I’m not going to be a person who’s going to be an advocate of the four [team playoff system] after this season,” Patterson said. “I think you need to take the winner of all five [power conferences] and then you have an at-large or three more and have either a six or an eight [team playoff]. I think we need to take people’s opinions out of it and what you do during a season is what gives you the opportunity to play into it. Then I think it’s a lot easier. ThenI think a lot of people would be a lot happier.”

This isn't sour grapes either because his Horned Frogs, No. 18 after last week's poll, won't sniff the top four even the Horned Frogs defeat Baylor on Friday. You might recall that last year Patterson and TCU didn't publicly complain about dropping from No. 3 to No. 6 and out of the playoff in the final ranking despite a 52-point win over Iowa State in the regular-season finale. Ohio State, which beat up Wisconsin in the Big Ten championship game, passed TCU for the final playoff spot.

The Big 12 will anxiously await the new CFP rankings to be released later Tuesday. The league certainly isn't holding its breath that either Oklahoma or Baylor will get into the top four and replace No. 3 Ohio State. No. 5 Iowa will likely get that honor.

The Big 12 is looking at a second consecutive season of possibly not getting a team into the four-team tournament.
