Syracuse Football: Viral video will become team's greatest recruiting tool
The Syracuse football team may only be 3-4, but the future is bright. A main reason for that is because of Dino Babers’ viral post-game locker room speech.
Earlier this offseason we discussed the difference between 5-7 and 6-6. On one side the Syracuse football team could be going to a bowl game. While that would include beating the teams they were supposed too.
On the other side of the coin, 5-7, would promise a skin on the wall for head coach Dino Babers. But with that win they would miss out on a potential bowl bid. So which outcome would be preferred among the Orange faithful?
Well overwhelmingly fans voted that a bowl game was much more important for a variety of reasons. With the win on Saturday they now have the opportunity to do both with five games left on the season. But before we get too ahead of ourselves, lets talk about the future.
Which happens to be very bright in Central New York despite the impending winter weather advisories. A main wrench in the Babers machine has been the missing pieces. Which is understandable considering he’s essentially coaching Scott Shafer’s team right now.
But plans are in place for Babers to start getting his guys in here as early as next year. While something that could help beef up the recruiting trail is this viral video that has made its way across the internet.

Its been reported and confirmed that several of Babers incoming recruits were not only at the Carrier Dome to see the Orange win, but they were in the locker room. Including the gem of the class, Tommy DeVito, who is projected as the next star quarterback for Syracuse.
While in his Monday press conference, Babers was a bit resistant to the video and its viral nature. He said that is what the team does and this is something they like to keep behind closed doors. That kind of attitude is what makes this moment even more genuine.
But despite the fact Babers isn’t willing to sharing these moments in the future, the damage has been done. This video has made its way across the country and Orange fans aren’t the only ones getting excited about it. This is exactly what this program needed because evidence is the greatest recruiting tool.
I haven’t played football for a team in years and that speech made me want to strap on the pads. So I can only imagine how potential recruits feel after having seen this video and with that giving Syracuse another thought.
