Strong gains firmer grip on program heading into Year 2

What's the biggest difference between Charlie Strong today and the Texas coach when he first arrived in Austin?
For starters, he isn't wasting energy booting anybody off the team.
Suspensions and dismissals dominated the headlines last summer and fall as Strong implemented his five core values and the type of culture he expected Longhorn football players to adhere to and embrace. Not all did. Those players were told to leave.
Strong talked about the evolution that's taken place since he took charge of one of the nation's premiere programs during the Big 12's spring teleconference this week.
"When you walk into a program the players are still trying to figure out who you are as a coach," Strong said. "Being around for a year, now they're comfortable with us, now you feel like you have a better hold on the team."
Strong certainly seems to have a firmer grip on the situation. His rules and standards are at the foundation of the program and he has a highly touted recruiting class coming in.
So now Strong can simply worry about real football problems, like who is going to be his starting quarterback.
