Source: Charlie Strong visiting South Florida to talk head coach job

Former Texas head coach Charlie Strong is visiting South Florida as the Bulls look to find their next head coach, a source told FOX Sports Friday morning. Strong was visited by USF brass in Texas earlier in the week. The former Florida defensive coordinator, who has deep ties throughout the state, is the frontrunner for the USF vacancy, the source said.

The Bulls are trying to replace Willie Taggart, who led USF to a 10-2 season before taking the Oregon job earlier this week.

The 56-year-old Strong built his Louisville program in large part around Florida-bred talent.

Strong did a terrific job at Louisville and has stocked the Texas program with lots of young talent, but he was fired after going 16-21 in three seasons with the Longhorns. He is expected to be a candidate for the Cincinnati vacancy, but word is he'd prefer USF. Strong also is coveted for several prominent defensive coordinator jobs.
