Reports: Baylor lands 5-star QB Stidham after he decommits from Texas Tech

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 11:20 p.m. ET

Five-star recruit Jarrett Stidham, Scout.com's second-ranked quarterback in the Class of 2015, committed to Baylor on Friday, according to multiple reports.

Stidham threw for 2,934 yards and 35 touchdowns and rushed for 15 more scores this season, according to 247 Sports. He was picked to play in the 2015 Under Armour All-America game, which will be held on Jan. 2.

Stidham had decommitted from Texas Tech last week.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder out of Stephenville, Texas, is the No. 17 recruit in the country. But is he ready to fill the shoes of senior singal-caller Bryce Petty, who'll be off to the NFL Draft after this season?

Greg Powers, a national recruiting analyst for Scout, says it will be a challenge for Stidham to beat out Bears backup Seth Russell to become the starter, but that Stidham may contribute in some capacity next season, such as using his athleticism to run the ball.
