Mack Brown doesn't want to be Texas' next athletic director, but he could play a role in finding the Longhorns' next leader.

Brown told CBS Sports' Dennis Dodds that he's not interested in the position despite the recent outpouring of support on Twitter from former players and others, such as longtime NFL personnel guru Gil Brandt. Dodds reports that Brown, a college football analyst at ESPN since leaving as Texas' head football coach after 16 years following the 2013 season, will likely be part the search committee to find a permanent replacement for Steve Patterson, who resigned under pressure Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Houston attorney and former Longhorns linebacker Mike Perrin was officially introduced as interim athletic director.

CBS Sports also reported that Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby is also not interested the job. That might be two down, but Dobbs provides an impressive list of candidates:

* Oliver Luck (executive vice president of regulatory affairs, NCAA, and was also a finalist with Patterson two years ago)

*Greg Byrne (Arizona AD)

*Tom Jurich (Louisville AD)

*Jeff Long (Arkansas AD, and chair of the College Football Playoff committee)

*John Currie (Kansas State AD)

*Chris Del Conte (TCU AD)

*Mark Hollis (Michigan State AD)

*Scott Stricklin (Mississippi State AD)
