Re-live the moment Cam Newton crushed LSU's soul and became an Auburn legend

Auburn and LSU are set to play on Saturday night in a game that has huge implications for both teams. Les Miles and Gus Malzahn are both on the hot seat, and a loss could do irreparable damage to their respective seasons, and possibly their careers.

It wasn't all that long ago that these two teams were amongst the best in the country and both national championship contenders, though, stocked with some of the best talent in college football. In 2010, both teams came into their matchup 7-0 and ranked in the Top 10 nationally.

The LSU game served as the national breakout for some guy named Cam Newton, playing in what ended up being his only year at Auburn. Most importantly, it created the signature play from his entire time at Auburn, his "Heisman moment" if you will.

In the third quarter, with the game tied at 10 and Auburn driving, Newton got the ball on what appeared to be a quarterback draw. After quickly cutting right, Newton slipped, put his hand down to maintain his balance and then cut back left and burst up field. From there, magic happened.

Cam made a defender miss while cutting left, then made another miss further down field. The only person left who could catch him was LSU's best defender -- Patrick Peterson -- and Cam put on the jets and burst into the open field. Peterson wrapped him up, right as he crossed the goal line for the touchdown.

Watching again, maybe the best part is listening to the sheer enthusiasm from CBS announcers Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson. Danielson specifically noticed the acceleration as it was happening and screamed, "Oh, did he accelerate? Ph my goodness." Lundquist screamed, "How about that?"

Auburn won the game 24-17 and won the national championship later that year. Of course, Newton won the Heisman after a stunning season in which he tallied 50 total touchdowns (30 through the air, 20 on the ground).

Six years later, Auburn will host those same LSU Tigers Saturday night on the Plains. We doubt we'll see anything as magical as what Cam did back in 2010.
