Prior statistics may tell the story for Florida on Saturday
Something's got to give.
Florida is a perfect 10-of-10 on fourth-down this year, punctuated by a 5-for-5 effort last week in the win over Tennessee. On the other side of the proverbial coin, Ole Miss leads the SEC on defense in such situations. Opponents have only converted twice in 10 tries on fourth down against Hugh Freeze's team.
The winner in this category could help determine the eventual victor in the contest.
Dually, a close game may also favor Florida. Under Jim McElwain, the Gators are 3-0 this year in games decided by seven points or fewer. This is a far cry from the previous regime, in which Florida was 5-9 in similar situations under former head coach Will Muschamp. As such, McElwain's team is essentially a battle-tested team throughout the early portion of the year.
Ole Miss hasn't been involved in close games to the same degree. While the Rebels beat Alabama by only six points, the score doesn't truly indicate how the game went. Freeze's squad controlled the game for the vast majority of the night. Aside from this contest, the Rebels won their three other games by a combined score of 176-40.
The longer Florida hangs around on Saturday, the more pressure Ole Miss will face. Playing the game in 'The Swamp' certainly won't help matters, and late-game situations seemingly are welcomed by the Gators.
