Numbers show Ohio State offense could be right on schedule

While there has been much handwringing throughout Buckeye Nation (and beyond) about what is wrong with the Ohio State offense so far this season, the stats the unit has complied so far take on a different complexion when compared to the same point in the national championship season of a year ago.

ESPN.com notes Ohio State is averaging the same number of yards per play (6.73) as it was through five games last season, and the Buckeyes are still second in the Big Ten in scoring.

Turnovers are up from eight in 2014 to 13 this year, although starting quarterback Cardale Jones has thrown the same number of interceptions (five) as last year's starter, J.T. Barrett, had to this point.

Barrett has thrown two interceptions in relief of Jones this season, but the bigger issue for the Ohio State offense has been six lost fumbles. That includes two last week at Indiana by receiver Jalin Marshall.
