Notre Dame WR Holmes to transfer, 3rd Irish player leaving

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) Wide receiver Corey Holmes plans to transfer to another school after graduating from Notre Dame this summer, becoming the third Fighting Irish player announcing plans to leave after a disappointing season.
Holmes, a 6-foot, 190-pound receiver from Pembroke Pines, Florida, played in just two games as a freshman and didn't play as a sophomore before finishing his junior season with 11 catches for 96 yards. He had four catches for 29 yards as the Irish were beaten 45-27 by Southern California in the final game to finish 4-8.
Backup quarterback Malik Zaire and reserve offensive lineman John Montelus, both seniors, previously announced they are transferring. Zaire started two games at quarterback in 2015 before a broken ankle ended his season. Montelus played in two games this season.
