Notre Dame Football: National Signing Day Review.

National Signing Day was an eventful and successful day for Notre Dame.

A phone call from Hawaii at 11 AM kicked things off when Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa chose Notre Dame over Oregon, Washington, USC, Vanderbilt and Navy amongst others.

Tagovailoa-Amosa was a late offer who fills a huge need for a strong, big-bodied defensive end. He also has the size and skill that make him an option at defensive tackle.

Per 247 Sports, Tagovailoa-Amosa is a 4 star recruit who sits at #247 overall, #10 SDE and #2 overall in the class of ’17.

The 6’3, 275 pound bull was the 19th commitment in Notre Dame’s ’17 class.

When Mike Elko was hired as defensive coordinator, there was a change in recruiting philosophy for the defense. Elko’s 4-2-5 scheme calls for different kinds of athletes than they had been recruiting.

In search of a rover candidate, Elko and Lea had been recruiting a dynamic athlete out of Virginia, Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah. They got back in contact with him from Notre Dame and offered him a scholarship. A huge recruiting battle between ND and Michigan State ensued.

The #11 recruit overall in Virginia (per 247 Sports) decided that Notre Dame was too much of an opportunity to pass up.

At 2 PM EST, Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah became the 20th recruit in Notre Dame’s class.

This was a huge victory over rival Michigan State. Staff as well as fans are very excited about this one.

I personally think JOK is the most underrated athlete in this class. I expect him to be a force on special teams this season.

10 minutes after Owusu-Koramoah signed his National Letter Of Intent, Notre Dame landed it’s 21st and final piece of the ’17 class.

Kofi Wardlow flipped his commitment from Maryland to Notre Dame at 2:10 PM (EST).

Wardlow is an intriguing prospect at 6’3, 230 pounds of lean muscle with a fantastic pass rushing stature. He provides Notre Dame with another much needed option at weak-side defensive end.

The D.C. native also received an offer late in the process. Speculation has been all over the place due to his official visit to Virginia Tech on the weekend and the fact that he hadn’t decommitted from Maryland.

Notre Dame reeled in 5 defensive lineman in this class which will provide great depth for a unit that has struggled in recent years.

Brian Kelly and Co. finished very strong with their class of ’17. There was plenty of excitement on campus and around ND Nation in general.
