Detroit, Michigan – Cass-Tech star Kalon Gervin saw all he needed to see during his visit to Notre Dame on the weekend. Originally scheduled for this evening, Gervin announced his commitment this morning instead.
The 5’11, 172 pound star cornerback is ranked #158 overall, #16 at his position and #4 in the state of Michigan by 247 Sports.
Considering Notre Dame didn’t sign a single cornerback in the ’17 class, the Irish will need not only several CB’s in the ’18 class, but quality athletes at the position who can come in and compete right away.
Kalon Gervin is that kind of talent. He has the speed, toughness, technique and play making ability to be successful right out of the gate at the college level.
In the past, many Cass-Tech football players with talent have gone on to play for in-state Michigan. That was what many had expected Gervin to do.
I spoke with him last week regarding his visit to Notre Dame and he shared with me that he was close with current Notre Dame commit Ovie Oghoufo and that they would be travelling to the campus together.
He also told me that he played little league and trained with current Notre Dame players Daelin Hayes and Khalid Kareem. Along with being a fit academically, the ties with these players likely played a hand in his decision.

Gervin’s commitment gives Notre Dame 7 elite athletes in their ’17 class.
Brian Kelly feels very good about this one, it seems.
