Morehead State extends Tenyer's contract
(STATS) - Morehead State has rewarded coach Rob Tenyer for the Eagles' first winning season in eight years with a three-year contract extension through 2019.
The extension, announced Monday, adds to a contract that was set to end after next season. It comes on the heels of a 7-4 campaign, which matched the Eagles' last winning mark in 2007. Included was their first six-win campaign in the Pioneer Football League as they finished in third place.
"When Rob agreed to become our head coach three seasons ago, he faced many challenging tasks. However, he began to tackle them immediately and with a very specific and directed plan," athletic director Brian Hutchinson said. "The progress we've made on and off the football field started immediately, but really demonstrated that the plan is working in 2015."
In Morehead State's breakout season, junior quarterback Austin Gahafer was named the PFL's offensive player of the year, and the Eagles' five Academic All-PFL selections were their most since 2001. The program averaged a league-best 8,204 fans for its five home games, an increase of more than 3,800 since Tenyer's first season in 2013.
He has a 14-21 record through three seasons. Previously, he was a Morehead State assistant coach from 2001-12.
