Michigan State Football: Betting odds vs. Penn State

Michigan State football is getting a tough matchup with Penn State on Saturday and the Nittany Lions are favored.

Michigan State football is looking to pull off a mammoth upset after coming just short against Ohio State last week. The two times the Spartans have played the No. 2 teams (Ohio State, Michigan) in the country this year, they were 20-plus point underdogs. The result? Single digit losses.

Surprisingly, Michigan State has been favored in most of its games this season. In fact, the Spartans were favored in eight out of 11 games thus far. Unfortunately, the Spartans have won only two as the favorites (Furman, Rutgers) and one as an underdog (Notre Dame).

Here are what the odds look like for the big game Saturday:

Point Spread: Penn State -12
Over/Under: 55

As you can see, the Nittany Lions are the clear favorites in this one at home. Playing against a 3-8 team with a chance to make it to the Big Ten title game, it’s almost a no-brainer that the Nittany Lions are favored by double digits.

However, the Spartans have played top teams tough this season, outside of Wisconsin. In fact, Michigan State came within a score of Michigan before allowing a two-point conversion attempt to turn into two points for the Wolverines. Also, Michigan State was a point away from upsetting No. 2 Ohio State.

Could this week be the same way? Michigan State tends to rise to the occasion, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it comes within a score of the Nittany Lions.
