Miami Hurricanes National Signing Day: Punter Zach Feagles

Zach Feagles should be a familiar name. He is the son of former Miami and 22 year NFL veteran Punter Jeff Feagles. Feagles is a three star prospect via ESPN and Scout and a two star prospect according to 247Sports and Rivals.Com.
He is ranked as the nation’s seventh best punter according to Kohl’s Kicking. Feagles is going to have to improve on a 36.1 yard average during his high school career. He will compete with former Florida transfer Jack Spicer to replace second team All-ACC Punter Justin Vogel.
Vogel was a huge part of Miami’s success in 2016. Whomever wins the job will have big shoes to fill. Vogel finished 21st in the nation in 2016 averaging 43.8 yards per punt. Either Feagles or Spicer will have to greatly improve on their high school averages to reach Vogel’s level.
Any number of reasons could have led to their relatively low averages in high school. Spicer spent a year at Florida before transferring to Miami to walk on as Vogel had. He will have three years of eligibility remaining.
Feagles is an excellent all around athlete. He also played running back at Ridgewood High School in Ridgewood, NJ. Feagles is from nearby Glen Rock, NJ. Per the Miami Herald, he rushed for 1,049 yards and 22 touchdowns this season, kicked off and punted.
Miami’s position coach Todd Hartley commented on Feagles and his HurricaneSports Bio follows:
ZACH IS A LEGACY KID AND IS THE SON OF JEFF FEAGLES. HE CAME DOWN HERE AND COMPETED AT OUR CAMP. HE HAS A VERY STRONG LEG, GREAT ACCURACY AND VERY POLISHED. WE’RE VERY EXCITED TO HAVE HIM HERE AND HE’LL BE A GREAT ASSET TO OUR SPECIAL TEAMS AND GIVE THE ABILITY TO CHANGE THE GAME WITH FIELD POSITION.
– TODD HARTLEY, SPECIAL TEAMS COORDINATOR/TIGHT ENDS COACH
