Melville with 3 TDs as Colgate beats Lafayette 38-17

HAMILTON, N.Y. (AP) Jake Melville threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as Colgate built on a first-half lead to beat Lafayette 38-17 on Saturday.

Melville had 202 yards on 15-of-23 passing for the Raiders (4-5, 3-2 Patriot League). He also ran for 141 yards and a score. John Wilkins rushed for 59 yards and two touchdowns.

Wilkins ran for a touchdown to cap Colgate's first drive and Jonah Bowman kicked a 47-yard field goal on the next drive to give the Raiders a 10-0 lead after one quarter. In the second period, Melville threw two touchdown passes to help put the Raiders up 24-7 at halftime.

Lafayette closed the gap to 24-17 early in the second half but Melville answered with a 24-yard scoring run to make it 31-17 with 2:13 left in the period.

Drew Reed threw for 202 yards and a touchdown for the Leopards (2-8, 1-4).
