Maryland Football: Torrey Smith scores second touchdown of the season

Maybe all that Torrey Smith needed was a change at quarterback.
In the first half against the Buffalo Bills, Colin Kaepernick found the former Maryland wideout for a 53-yard touchdown. It was Smith’s second touchdown reception of the season in his second year with the San Francisco 49ers.
This was Kaepernick’s first start of the season after Blaine Gabbert had started the first five games.

On the play, Kaepernick dropped back to pass and just launched a bomb. Smith got completely behind the defense and was wide-open at the Bills 20-yard line.
Smith hauled in the pass then turned upfield and made his way to the other side of the field. He outran the lone Bills defender to the end zone for his second score of the season.
Coming into Sunday’s game, Smith had just nine receptions for 106 yards and a touchdown. His best game had come against the Carolina Panthers when he caught three passes for 55 yards and a touchdown.
Jeremy Kerley had been the top target for Gabbert through the first five games.
In his first season with the 49ers, Smith hauled in 33 passes for 663 yards and four touchdowns. That came after four very successful years with the Baltimore Ravens.
Smith was originally selected by the Ravens in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft. That came after three very strong seasons at Maryland.
During his Maryland career, he caught 152 passes for 2,215 yards and 19 touchdowns.
