Malcom Brown to Pats fans: 'Be ready for when I touch the field'

Malcom Brown had to sweat it out as player after player got called to the podium sporting suits and big smiles as they were selected during Thursday night's first round of the NFL draft.
Then finally came the New England Patriots with the final pick of the first round, No. 32. The grueling nature of having to wait so long and wondering if he'd go in the first round after all was quickly quelled by the Super Bowl champs selecting the former Texas Longhorns defensive lineman.

Brown quickly let Patriots fans know what they can expect: “You’re about to get the best player you’ve ever drafted, so just be ready for when I touch the field,” Brown said on a conference call as reported by NESN.
Brown, 21, didn't walk to the podium to shake the hand of NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. Brown chose not to attend the draft in Chicago. He preferred to watch with family members, former coaches and close friends who helped him make it to this point.
Brown, who was projected to go about 10 to 15 picks earlier, opted to leave Texas a year early to provide for his wife, daughter and step-daughter.
"You know, I had thought about it at one point,” Brown said of not attending the draft on the conference call. “Coach (Charlie) Strong talked to me, my agent talked to me, but I feel like, there’s a lot of people who actually helped me get to where I am. I’ve always, since high school, looked at the draft and always told my uncle that I wanted to be here one day. My high school coach who helped me out, I always told him that I wanted to work hard to get somewhere. And they all helped me get to where I am right now, so why would I just go there, and there’s so many people that wanted to be around me at the time of me being draft, and I would have to select a few to go with me and everybody else would be stuck here watching it, watching me on screen getting drafted. Why couldn’t we just all be together?”
