LSU reinstates player with pending domestic abuse charges

Published Aug. 6, 2015 12:13 p.m. ET

The LSU Tigers appear to be taking a rather cavalier approach to a most serious offense, as the team has decided to reinstate offensive lineman Jevonte Domond despite the fact he has a pending charge of domestic violence following an incident in May.

According to a police report obtained by The Advocate, Domond “grabbed his fiancée from behind by the neck,” lifting her off the ground then dropping her. She also told authorities she “began to lose consciousness” and “almost blacked out.” It was at that point she pepper sprayed the 6-foot-6, 310-pound Domond twice. Domond then followed his fiancée to the police station following the alleged event.

Troubling allegations to be sure, but Les Miles isn't preventing the allegations from keeping Domond from the practice field.

"He's in position to compete to play," Miles said to the Times-Picayune. "We're letting the disposition of whatever entanglement he's involved in run its course. He's not suspended."

In a day and age when tolerance for domestic violence is at an all-time low, LSU's decision is a curious one.
