Lambeau Field College Classic: Wisconsin Badgers Upset of LSU Tigers Heightens Expectations
The sky seems to be the limit for Wisconsin after upsetting LSU in the Lambeau Field College Classic.
Going into the season, the Wisconsin Badgers were faced with one of their toughest schedules in recent memory. They weren’t expected to really do much this year. They weren’t even expected to really compete with the LSU Tigers to open the season. But those expectations have now been blow through the roof after they took down the Tigers 16-14 at the Lambeau Field College Classic.
The Badgers defense continued their dominance from last season and held LSU to just one offensive touchdown. Running back Leonard Fournette, a Heisman front-runner and coming off the best rushing season the SEC has seen, rushed for 138 yards on 23 carries but was held out of the endzone and had a tough time getting anything going until the third quarter.

Wisconsin also dominated the time of possession for the entire game and gained 339 yards to LSU’s 257. After the Badgers jumped out to a 13-0 lead, LSU struck quickly late in the third quarter. Tre’Davious White picked off a horrible Bart Houston pass (there were a couple of those from Houston that killed drives) and took it to the house for the Tigers’ first score. Just 67 seconds later, behind the running of Fournette, LSU found the endzone again, this time a 10 yard pass from Brandon Harris to Travin Dural.
Houston overcome two poor interceptions to lead the Badgers down the field to give Rafael Gaglianone the chance to kick the game-winning 47 yard field goal. Once again the defense bent but did not break as pressure forced Harris to throw an errant pass right into the hands of Wisconsin’s D’Cota Dixon to seal the deal for the Badgers.
This Badgers team was not expected to really do much against the Tigers and were not expected to slow down Fournette. They did both leading to one of the biggest non conference wins in school history. It’s only one game and there is plenty Wisconsin needs to work on. But one can not help to think that this will catapult them heading into the rest of the non conference schedule and into their brutal Big Ten campaign.
Wisconsin proved Saturday afternoon they can hang with the big dogs and came out with a hard-fought victory. A victory that they can build on going forward in the 2016 season.
