JMU S Greene granted medical waiver for 2017

Updated Mar. 5, 2020 1:48 a.m. ET

(STATS) - James Madison safety Raven Greene will be eligible to play in 2017 after being granted a medical waiver from the NCAA.

Greene, tied for second in CAA Football with five interceptions and 11 passes defensed this season, received a redshirt for a 2014 sophomore campaign cut short after four games by a season-ending injury.

The preseason All-CAA selection has started all nine games in 2016 and 28 for his career, lending an experienced and stabilizing presence to a Dukes secondary that's tied for third in the FCS with 17 interceptions.

"We are really excited to have one of our defensive leaders granted a fifth year of eligibility from the NCAA," JMU coach Mike Houston said. "Raven has been an important member of our program and I am looking forward to having another season with him."

Greene earned second team All-CAA honors in 2015 after starting all 12 games and recording 88 tackles, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries. The Virginia Beach native ranks fourth on this year's team with 45 tackles.
