How much will Oklahoma pay Tulsa to play in 2017?
It takes a pretty penny for a major college football program like Oklahoma to schedule a non-conference victory.
According to a contract the New Orleans Times-Picayune received from Oklahoma in an open records request, OU will pay Tulane $1.2 million for their game in Norman on Sept. 16, 2017.
The two schools agreed to a three-game series in May. After the 2017 game, the series goes on the shelf until Sept. 4, 2021 in New Orleans, and then heads back to Norman on Sept. 7, 2024.
Because of the unusual gap between the games, the contract has some interesting details. According to the contract obtained by the Times-Picayune, the two schools will exchange $350,000 for the final two games, and Oklahoma will pay Tulane an additional $10,000 for each year between the second and third games to cover travel expenses.
The penalty for breaking the contract is $1.2 million, according to the contract.
It's not a bad deal for Tulane, which will surely see an attendance spike for its 2021 home against OU.
For the Sooners, well, get the 'W' or it certainly won't be money well spent.
