Hackenberg: No NFL draft questions, please
One of the big talking points this offseason has been the potential for the Big Ten to have a large showing at the 2016 NFL draft, and Penn State quarterback Christian Hackenberg could take the lead role if that plays out the way prognosticators have projected.
He does not want to hear about it now as his junior season gets ready to begin, however.
The Centre Daily Times reports Hackenberg respectfully asked reporters at media day in Happy Valley on Thursday not to ask him about his future.
“I know you guys have a job to do,” he said. “I also have a job to do, and that is to lead this Penn State football team.”
Hackenberg is coming off a down year as a sophomore, but he still has physical tools that make scouts drool.
Another year in offensive coordinator John Donovan's system and another year of seasoning for Hackenberg's supporting cast should make things easier in 2015 than they were in 2014, too.
"I think him along with everybody else are going to be able to draw from the experiences they have had, and you can draw from those experiences, but ultimately it's about what you do this year," Donovan said.
"What he's going to do this year will determine how good he'll be. What we do this year will determine how good we'll be this year, and I think with the attitude we have coming in, the excitement we have as a unit, if we attack each day like I said with that mindset, we'll like where we're at this year, and it's about starting today, and we're going to worry about today and attack today and try to be great today, and we wake up tomorrow and do the same thing."
