Gardner-Webb to host six in 2016

(STATS) - Gardner-Webb will try to take advantage of a four-game homestand during the middle of its 11-game 2016 schedule which was announced Monday.
The Runnin' Bulldogs, coming off a 4-7 season, will play six home games in coach Carroll McCray's fourth season.
The home opener will be against The Citadel on Sept. 17 and the four in a row will be against Division II Benedict (Oct. 1), Coastal Carolina (Oct. 8) and Big South Conference opponents Presbyterian (Oct. 15, Homecoming) and Kennesaw State (Oct. 22). They will wrap up the regular season Nov. 19 against Big South member Monmouth.
Gardner-Webb will open the season on the road against Elon (Sept. 3) and Western Carolina (Sept. 10), visit FBS member Ohio University (Sept. 24) and also go to Big South powers Liberty (Oct. 29) and Charleston Southern (Nov. 5), the defending champion.
"This is a very challenging lineup of games and we look forward to taking on some of the top FCS programs nationally this season," McCray said. "The stretch in October with four straight home games should be exciting for our fans, both on campus and in the community. We enjoy playing in Spangler Stadium and protecting that turf."
