Gardner-Webb throttles D-II Benedict College in 45-0 rout

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (AP) Khalil Lewis had 112 yards on 15 carries and three scores as Gardner-Webb routed NCAA Division II member Benedict College 45-0 on Saturday night.

Lewis entered the game on pace for 1,127 yards and 17 touchdowns, which would give him the school's single-season touchdown mark.

A 21-point second quarter for Gardner-Webb (2-3) sealed the game.

Lewis scored from 4 yards out, Tyrell Maxwell ran 7 yards to score then threw a 4-yard TD pass to Mike Estes with 5:43 to play before halftime.

Benedict (3-2) from Columbia, S.C. entered the game allowing just 64 rushing yards per game against D-II opponents. Gardner-Webb ran for 240 on Saturday. The Bulldogs finished with 387 yards of total offense and held the Tigers to 154.

Phillip Brown and Mason Duckett combined to throw for just 93 yards on 10-for-18 passing for Benedict College.
