Ex-Gopher Derrick Wells has huge week

Published May. 12, 2015 2:14 p.m. ET

Former Minnesota Golden Gopher Derrick Wells has had quite the week.

The safety is graduating on Thursday with a business degree from Minnesota and is also expected to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after meeting with them last Friday and Saturday. Check out what Derrick had to say via the News-Press:

"When I was in the locker room, they told me to take a quick shower and get my stuff and they were going to take me upstairs, Wells said. "The GM (Jason Licht) came in and congratulated us. I'm supposed to sign this week."

It also turns out that the Bucs were Wells' favorite team growing up and he used to cry when they lost according to his mom. Now he will get to help them win so other young fans don't have tears.
