Duke safety Cash coming up money for the Blue Devils
This week the Blue Devils rose to No. 23 in the AP Top 25 Poll and their ascension has a lot to do with the play of safety Jeremy Cash, who was recently named a midseason all-American by both CBS Sports and ESPN.
Cash has been a dynamic playmaker on a Duke (5-1, 2-0 ACC) team that currently sits a game out of first place in the Coastal Division behind Pitt (5-1, 3-0).
The 6-2, 210-pound senior currently ranks fifth in the nation with 11.5 tackles for a loss, while his 46 tackles stands 10th in the ACC and puts him in the running to be the conference’s defensive player of the year. However, the humble Cash refuses to get wrapped up in postseason honors.
“I have been playing well, but I really haven’t studied or followed the success of other players. I’m sure there are quite a few players in the ACC on the defensive side that have had success as well,” Cash told ESPN. “All I can say is: I will continue to play as hard as I can and we’ll let the voters choose whomever they believe is the ACC Defensive Player of the Year.”
Cash, a reigning all-American, has led the Blue Devils to three straight wins and will look to make it four this Saturday when Duke plays at Virginia Tech (3-4, 1-2 ACC) at 3:30 p.m.
