Calvin Ridley is having a down year statistically, however, he is not experiencing a sophomore slump by any means. Ridley’s dip in statistics is due to Alabama’s quarterback play. True freshman Jalen Hurts is extremely talented, but, he is not quite the pocket passer that Jake Coker was a season ago.

Offensive coordinator, Lane Kiffin has implemented more zone-read into the offense to complement Hurts’ strongest attributes. Calvin Ridley has still managed to catch 66 passes for 727 yards and 7 touchdowns this season, despite the change in scheme.

Ridley is the tenth ranked offensive weapon because of his speed. Calvin is not the biggest guy at 6’1, 188 lbs, however, what he lacks in size he makes up for in acceleration and quickness. There are few, if any, guys in the playoff that get in and out of their breaks faster than Ridley. This speed makes him difficult to cover because he has the top end speed to leave you out of his break.

Calvin also runs crisp routes which help him gain separation from defenders. Offensive coordinator, Lane Kiffin likes to get Ridley the ball on jet sweeps and reverses as well.

Calvin is the shiftiest wide receiver that Alabama has, he is dangerous with the ball in his hands. Against Washington, I expect Lane Kiffin to get the ball to Ridley early and often. Look for Ridley to get the ball on screens and out of the backfield early in the game to get him in a rhthym.
