Updated Mar. 4, 2020 9:38 p.m. ET

(STATS) - Western Carolina is seeking an FCS playoff berth in 2018 after winning seven games for the third time in the last four seasons.

The once-struggling program has turned around under coach Mark Speir, and the Catamounts will seek the next step in an 11-game schedule which was announced Monday.

WCU will kick off the season on Sept. 1 by hosting Division II Newberry. The Catamounts also will host Southern Conference opponents VMI (Sept. 22), Chattanooga (Oct. 13), The Citadel (Nov. 3, Homecoming) and Wofford (Nov. 10), the defending champ, at E.J. Whitmire Stadium.

The road portion of the schedule includes a Nov. 17 visit to North Carolina. The Catamounts fell 65-10 to the Tar Heels to end the 2017 season.
