Alabama football: SEC Honors Joshua Jacobs as Freshman of Week
Jacobs has rushed 34 times and collected 250 yards to average 7.4 yards per carry, and has also scored three times to lead all tailbacks and tie for the team-high mark for rushing scores.
The Southeastern Conference recognized Alabama football running back Joshua Jacobs as one of the conference’s Freshmen of the Week.
Jacobs made his first career start Saturday in the Crimson Tide’s 34-6 victory over Kentucky, and recorded his first 100-yard rushing performance. The native of Tulsa, Okla., rushed for a 100 yards and scored a touchdown on just 16 carries to average 6.2 yards per rush.
Jacobs also caught a career-best three passes for 44 yards to give him 144 total yards from scrimmage. He converted nine first downs on 19 touches, including seven rushing first downs and two in the passing game for No. 1 Alabama. Jacobs averaged 7.6 yards per touch with long plays of 28 yards rushing and 23 yards receiving.
For the season, Jacobs has rushed 34 times and collected 250 yards to average 7.4 yards per carry. He has also scored three times to lead all tailbacks and tie for the team-high mark for rushing scores. Through the air, Jacobs has caught five passes for 67 yards to average 13.4 yards per catch.
Other SEC honors
The SEC also recognized LSU running back Derrius Guice (163 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns in 17 carries in a 42-7 win over Missouri), Tennessee defensive end Derek Barnett (5 tackles, 2 sacks, 2.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble in end zone that resulted in a Vols TD in a wild 34-31 victory over Georgia), Arkansas offensive lineman Dan Skipper (blocked his second field goal of season and seventh of career in 52-10 win against Alcorn State), Tennessee long snapper Riley Lovingood (downed punt at Georgia 6 to pin Bulldogs deep en route to end-zone fumble), LSU center Ethan Pocic (hub of offensive line that paved the way for the most total yards in a SEC game for the Tigers in school history, with 634 total yards in 42-7 win over Missouri) and Texas A&M defensive end Daeshon Hall (finished with 6 total tackles, 4 solo and recorded 3.5 tackles for losses totaling 16 yards in 24-13 win against South Carolina, which included two quarterback sacks for losses of 12 yards and added two additional quarterback hurries).

Alabama football returns to action Saturday at No. 16 Arkansas. The game will kick off at 7 pm and be broadcast nationally on ESPN. It was also announced Monday that Alabama will play Tennessee on CBS at 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 15.
