Addazio on QBs: 'I'm going to settle on one'

Boston College’s game of musical quarterbacks will come to an end this week, but Eagles fans might not know who the winner is until BC kicks off against No. 5 Clemson Saturday night at 7 p.m.

The Eagles used both quarterbacks Troy Flutie and Jeff Smith during their last three games, but coach Steve Addazio would like to whittle it down to one player.

“I am going to settle on one, but I’ll announce that later in the week,” Addazio told the Boston Herald. “But we are going to settle on one.”

Boston College (3-3, 0-3 ACC) is coming off of what might be its ugliest loss in years, as it was blanked 3-0 by Wake Forest and blew a last-second opportunity to tie the game. With time running out in the fourth quarter, BC had the ball at the Demon Deacons 1-yard line, but allowed the time to expire before it ever got a chance to kick a field goal.

The Eagles have scrambled to cover the quarterback position since starter Darius Wade sustained a season-ending ankle injury in their loss to Florida state.

On the season, Flutie, a redshirt freshman, has completed 54.1 percent of his passes for 336 yards and three touchdowns, while being intercepted once.

Smith, a true freshman, has connected on 30 percent of his passes for 86 yards, zero TDs and one interception.
