Wright State holds off Northern Kentucky 67-64
DAYTON, Ohio (AP) Michael Karena scored 17 points with seven rebounds and Wright State held off Northern Kentucky 67-64 on Saturday.
Wright State held a small lead most of the game. Northern Kentucky drew to within three, 62-59, with 4:11 left after a 3-point play by Jake Giesler. With 44 seconds to go, NKU's Tyler White made a pair of free throws to make it a one-point game.
After a timeout, the teams traded turnovers, and Wright State's Joe Thomasson (10 points) then sank a pair from the line to put it back to three with six seconds left. The Norse had a shot to tie, but White's 3-pointer hit the back of the iron and missed.
Grant Benzinger scored 16 points for Wright State (17-12, 11-5 Horizon), which pulled into a second-place tie with Oakland (19-10, 11-5) in the conference.
Northern Kentucky (9-18, 5-11) was led by White with 21 points.
