Western Kentucky rallies past Middle Tennessee 78-72

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) Justin Johnson scored a pair of layups that helped Western Kentucky come back from a point down, and Aaron Cosby hit a key 3-pointer as the Hilltoppers rallied in the final minutes to defeat Middle Tennessee 78-72 for their first win at Murfreesboro since 2009.

Cosby scored 23 points with five 3-pointers to lead Western Kentucky (14-14, 6-9 Conference USA), wearing throwback jerseys from the 1965-66 Sweet 16 team, and Fredrick Edmond added 15 points and nine rebounds. Anton Waters scored 12 and Johnson finished with five.

Giddy Potts scored 19, with four 3-pointers, and had 12 rebounds to lead Middle Tennessee (18-9, 10-5). Reggie Upshaw scored 17.

The Hilltoppers shot 52 percent (29-56) and out-rebounded Middle Tennessee 40-29. Western Kentucky has won back-to-back games after losing the previous three by a combined 10 points and 2 in OT.
