MACOMB, Ill. (AP) Dexter Werner scored 14 points with 10 rebounds to help North Dakota State top Western Illinois 65-52 on Saturday.
Paul Miller added 14 points with seven rebounds, and Kory Brown chipped in 12 points for the Bison (14-7, 4-3 Summit).
Western Illinois (7-11, 0-7 Summit) was led by Tate Stensgaard and J.C. Fuller with 10 points apiece. Garret Covington grabbed 10 rebounds to go with nine points.
A 7-0 spurt midway through the second half - including back-to-back jumpers by Miller - turned a three-point lead to 10 with 7:46 to go. Western Illinois cut the deficit to seven points on the ensuing two possessions, but the Leathernecks got no closer the rest of the way as the Bison made 8 of 10 free throw attempts down the stretch.
