W. Carolina 70, Coll. of Charleston 62
Mike Williams scored 18 points and Western Carolina beat College of Charleston 70-62 on Saturday to secure the No. 1 seed in the North Division of the Southern Conference. It was the regular-season finale for both teams.
The Cougars trailed most of the game but used a 15-4 run to trim a 15-point deficit in the second half to 49-45 with 9:19 remaining. But the Catamounts built the lead back up to 13 points over the next six minutes to put the game out of reach.
Richie Gordon had 16 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks, and Harouna Mutombo also scored 16 points for the Catamounts (17-14, 12-6), who have won eight of their past nine games.
Willis Hall had 21 points and 18 rebounds to lead the Cougars (22-9, 14-4), who have lost twice in a row for the first time this season. The Cougars already have locked up the No. 1 seed from the South Division.
