Tyson, Washington lead E. Carolina to 68-48 win over Hampton

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) B.J. Tyson had 17 points and Andre Washington made 5 of 6 from the floor for 13 points and blocked five shots as East Carolina ran away from Hampton in the final half of second period for a 68-48 win on Tuesday night.

Kentrell Barkley made 5 of 9 field goal attempts for 12 points and had six rebounds for East Carolina.

East Carolina (6-2), which has won five straight at home, made 51 percent of its field goals, while holding Hampton to just 18-of-64 (28%) shooting. East Carolina was up 36-28 at the break. A.J. Astroth hit a jump shot as Hampton closed to 42-41 with 13:37 remaining. Barkley made two free throws and Tyson nailed a jumper to start East Carolina on a 10-0 run and a 52-41 lead at the 9:36 mark. Hampton could not recover.

Jermaine Marrow led Hampton (1-6), which has lost five straight, with 12 points.
