Spencer's 15 leads Tennessee State past Santa Clara 69-61

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) Reserve Delano Spencer led a balanced attack with 15 points and Tennessee State won the 50th Cable Car Classic with a 69-61 win over host Santa Clara on Sunday.

The Tigers (3-0), off to their best start since 1994-95, got 12 points from Wayne Martin, 11 from Jordan Reed and 10 apiece from Tahjere McCall and Darreon Reddick.

A 17-0 run gave Tennessee State a 23-11 lead on the way to a 35-22 halftime advantage. Spencer, who hit 5 of 6 shots, all 3-pointers, had a pair in the run and Martin had five points.

The Tigers finished 10 of 16 behind the arc, better than their 11 of 20 from the foul line.

Jared Brownridge's trey 4 minutes into the second half pulled the Broncos (1-2) within six but they couldn't get closer.

Jarvis Pugh had 15 points, Brownridge 14 and Henrik Jadersten 13 for Santa Clara.
