Pirates' Sheeran denies reports about AD's possible firing
The president of Seton Hall University has denied published reports
that athletic director Joe Quinlan will be fired at the end of the
academic year.
Monsignor Robert Sheeran made the announcement shortly before
the Pirates played No. 9 Pitt in a Big East game. He said stories
that Quinlan's five-year tenure would end were untrue.
The
Courier-News of Bridgewater made the first report late
Friday night, and the
Star-Ledger of Newark followed with a report in Sunday
editions.
Quinlan has been working without a contract since June, but
Sheeran insisted that no decision had been made on his future,
adding he's the one who makes such decisions.
Sheeran said the athletic department is undergoing a
transition and the only department member who has received a new
contract was basketball coach Bobby Gonzalez.
